WEYI-TV’s Dave Bondy Retires from TV News
April 7, 2023
On April 4, WEYI-TV and WSMH-TV (Flint) News Anchor announced his retirement from television news, effective immediately. Bondy made the announcement during the station's 6 p.m. newscast, saying "It's time to step aside from TV news and live a more normal life."
Bondy noted that he was destined to work in television, saying that he was bitten by the TV news bug at an early age. "My 25-year career in local television news is ending tonight," Bondy said in his on-air announcement. "As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to work in TV news. When I was six years old I would go around my neighborhood interviewing people with a toy camera and microphone."
He joined WEYI in 2015 after serving as a morning news reporter at WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh. His resume also includes WBRC-TV (Birmingham, AL), WNEM-TV (Saginaw), WECT-TV (Wilmington, NC) and WEVV-TV (Evansville, IN).
Bondy and his wife Katie are the parents of two young children, Olivia and Owen. He has not announced his future plans.
