Paul “Uncle” Buck Joins Black Diamond’s Bear
September 8, 2023
Black Diamond's Northern Michigan Classic Rock "The BEAR" simulcast of WGFN-FM (98.1 & 95.1) and WWSS-FM (95.3)has announced that, in addition to The Bob & Tom Show back on the air in northern Michigan, mid-day slot will be filled by Paul “Uncle” Buck.
Buck comes to the station from Beasley Media Detroit. Buck is a graduate of Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts and a member of their hall of fame. He grew up in Dearborn and has been on Detroit airwaves since 1991, with multiple MAB - Michigan Association of Broadcasters awards in radio production.
The nickname came from the movie Uncle Buck, but unlike the big screen carefree bachelor, this Uncle Buck is married to the beautiful Kelly with 2 boys. As a matter of fact they got marital advice from Greg Allman. They were backstage at the Fillmore Detroit where Uncle Buck was introducing the Allman Brothers Band. While the legendary rocker delighted over the news of the couples soon to be nuptials, he said “word of advice, never go to bed mad at each other”. He then turned to go on stage. Uncle Buck said to his then fiancé Kelly, “we just got marital advice from a guy who was married to Cher for 9 days!” “They must have gone to bed mad”.
More on Uncle Buck: He’s a big Bruce fan. Has seen Springsteen every tour since 1978 and has the stories to go with it. He held Bruce’s ankle while he crowd surfed, interviewed Little Steven from the E Street Band, but getting face to face with his idol has been elusive. Buck likes bacon and bourbon too. Maybe a little too much. He’s a Spartan fan and cheers for the Lions, Tigers and Pistons. In that order. He likes fishing, cooking, U.P. vacations, a good chili and he can carry a tune.
The Bear is proud to say The Buck Stops Here.
Jay Roberts will continue to server Bear afternoon listeners, with Greg Fletcher taking over for the syndicated Alice Cooper program when that show ends on September 9.
