October 20, 2023
A former general manager of WLUC-TV (Marquette) has passed away. Larry Busse was the station’s GM from December, 1973 through September, 1975.
Busse got his start in broadcasting in 1961 as farm director at WBAY-TV (Green Bay). He then joined the sales department of crosstown WLUK-TV in 1965. That began a 19-year tenure with the Post Corporation, then WLUK's parent company. Post Corporation also owned the Marquette station.
He served on the Board of Directors of both the Michigan and New York State Broadcasters Associations. Additionally, he was also a valued member of the National Association of Broadcasters Small Market Advisory Committee. In 1984, Larry assumed the role of President at Gillett Communications after it acquired the Post Corporation stations. Holding this position until 1998, Busse continued to make significant contributions to the broadcasting field. He then established Busse Broadcasting and served as its President from 1987 to 1998.
He was deeply honored when he was elected to the Wisconsin Broadcasters Hall of Fame for his remarkable contributions to the industry. Busse was 87.
