Eric Zane Joins Blarney Stone’s WQON
March 15, 2024
Blarney Stone Broadcasting has announced that longtime Grand Rapids air talent Eric Zane is joining the company's WQON-FM (Grayling) for the station's morning shift beginning this Monday (3/18). The new morning show will be named “The Inzane Asylum Q100 Michigan Mornings” show and will air weekday mornings, 6 - 10 a.m.
Zane is best known for his sixteen year run as part of Compass Media Networks’ Free Beer & Hot Wings Show as a producer and co-host from 2000 when it was based at WBON-FM (Knoxville, TN) through its move to WTHK-FM (Trenton, NJ) and then to WGRD-FM (Grand Rapids) where it has been based since 2004 and began national syndication.
"At Q100 Michigan, we count ourselves lucky to bring an upbeat, energetic veteran radio host to our morning show,” said Programming Director Jomarie Leone. “Eric Zane in the InZane Asylum has a dedication to music that our listeners count on, plus energy and fun that can get them up and rocking in the morning, It's always good to hear a familiar voice that cares about keeping rock and roll alive."
Following his departure from the show in 2016, he then hosted mornings at crosstown WBBL-FM and has been hosting a daily podcast since. He is also the public address announcer for the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins.
Born in Detroit and raised in Warren, Zane is no stranger to the Northern Michigan community. “I’ve spent many summers up here doing what Michiganders do Up North,” he said.
A graduate from Central Michigan University, Zane’s colorful career has included a stint at WRIF in Detroit.
Zane and his wife Diana – he refers to her at “Queen of the Forest” – have been wed since 1992 and three
children and two grandchildren.
At WQON, Zane takes the morning slot that had been held by Chad ‘Chatterson’ Patterson for the past year. Patterson departed the station on March 1 to return to working in education, but will continue to call Grayling High School football for WQON as he has since 2017.
