Meteorologist Terri DeBoer Joins WXMI-TV
October 18, 2024
Scripps Media's WXMI-TV (Grand Rapids) has announced that veteran meteorologist Terri DeBoer has joined the station. DeBoer, with nearly 30 years of experience, will soon join Chief Meteorologist Kevin Craig on the station's Morning News.
DeBoer will officially begin her new role in mid-November. Viewers can expect to see Terri during WXMI's Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday morning newscasts. She will also provide coverage during severe weather events.
DeBoer is no stranger to West Michigan viewers, having served as the morning meteorologist at crosstown WOOD-TV for nearly 30 years. Over her distinguished career, she has covered some of the region’s most significant weather events, including the 1998 Derecho and the 2022 Christmas Week Blizzard. She was the first woman in Michigan to earn the American Meteorological Society’s Television Seal of Approval.
“I’m looking forward to returning to the challenge and excitement of forecasting West Michigan’s ever-changing weather and am thrilled to be joining the FOX 17 team,” said DeBoer. “It’s a privilege to be able to share my knowledge and passion for weather with the viewers of West Michigan!”
Kim Krause, WXMI General Manager, shared her excitement about DeBoer’s arrival: “We are beyond excited to welcome someone of Terri’s caliber to our team. Not only does she bring an incredible amount of meteorological expertise, but her deep connection to our West Michigan community is invaluable. She has been a trusted voice in homes across the area for decades, and we are thrilled to have her join the FOX 17family.”
In addition to her weather coverage, DeBoer is a passionate author and community advocate. She has written four books and her contributions to the local community extend far beyond the weather, as she serves on the boards of the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan and the Grand Rapids Griffins Youth Foundation, and volunteers with numerous charitable organizations.
