WZMQ Teams with Goodwill for “Operation Warm UP”

November 15, 2024

Lilly Broadcasting's WZMQ-TV (Marquette) is partnering with Goodwill Industries of Northern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan for a winter clothing drive for those who need a helping hand.

The station says many people in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula do not always have enough clothing to stay warm or lack funds to buy certain cold weather items. Operation Warm UP will result in donations of items to help people who do not have housing or who receive shelter assistance during the harsh winter months ahead.

Donations of unused or gently used coats, hats and gloves can be made at five donation centers across the UP and Marinette, WI. Donations will be accepted in our designated Operation Warm UP bins located by the front entrance inside Goodwill stores. Customers may also voluntarily “round up” their purchase totals for a cash contribution to the drive.

Participating Goodwill locations are Marquette, Escanaba, Sault Ste Marie, Houghton, and Marinette, WI.

“I’m from Michigan and understand how frigid it can be here during the winter season,” said Kevin Hodge, WZMQ anchor. “It feels great to help people who need items to stay warm. Goodwill always steps up to meet its mission.”

Goodwill’s mission is “to enhance the dignity and quality of life of individuals, families, and communities by eliminating barriers to opportunity and helping people in need reach their fullest potential through the power of work.”

WZMQ 19 will provide news coverage and public service announcements to bring awareness to the campaign.

Operation Warm UP started October 27 and ends November 30.
