February 14, 2025

On February 4, Midwest Communications closed on its acquisition of WQXC-FM (Allegan) and WZUU-FM (Mattawan) from Forum Communications.  The deal, filed in September was approved by the FCC in December.  Forum, headed by Robert P. Brink along with 50/50 partner Deborah A. Whiteman has owned WQXC since 1985 and acquired WZUU in 1997.

The stations join current Midwest stations in the Battle Creek/Kalamazoo market, including WZOX-FM. WNWN-FM, WVFM-FM, WKZO-AM, WTOU-AM. and WFAT-AM.

According to RadioInsight, immediately after closing, WFAT-AM began simulcasting WQXC, with the simulcast now branding as “Cool FM” positioning as “Michigan’s Oldies” with a playlist centered in the 1970s.  WZUU continues its mainstream rock format.

WQXC is a class A FM on 100.9 with 3kw ERP at 100 meters.  WZUU is also a class A FM, operating on 92.5 with 4.7kw ERP at 111 meters.
