WBKB-TV (Alpena) has announced that Sumner Moorer as the new Anchor and Managing Editor for the news department in Alpena, Michigan. She brings three years of experience with her to help deliver local news, grow other journalists, and serve northeast Michigan.

Moorer started her career in the Greenville/Spartanburg, South Carolina market. Her variety of experience in reporting, producing, anchoring, and digital content creation makes her a strong centerpiece as the television station continues to evolve.

“Sumner is a dynamic journalist. Coming from one of the larger markets in the country, she will be able to elevate our local news product, and do it in a way that’s in tune with Alpena and the surrounding communities. Her ability to understand all the facets of news gathering and production is a tremendous asset to the WBKB newsroom. As we continue to grow the news team, Sumner is instrumental to that vision,” said Ben Raymond, WBKB News Director.

From covering the historical toll Hurricane Helene took on the Western North Carolina region to diving deep into the effects of rapid growth in the Upstate, Moorer says she is driven to tell stories that directly impact the community.

“As a journalist, I want to show people what they’re missing. From city council meetings and local elections, to road safety and high school basketball - these are your stories. I want to break down what’s happening, and share it in a way that’s easy to understand.”

Her role as managing editor will be among other things, to help train and guide future new hires in the news department. Moorer began her duties at WBKB this week.
