Mid-West Family Media Makes Multiple Changes in Southwest Michigan

March 7, 2025

Mid-West Family Broadcasting is shifting formats and call letters on several signals in Southwest Michigan and Northeast Indiana. The changes, which have taken place this week, have “97.5 Y-Country” WYTZ-FM (Bridgman/Benton Harbor) taking the call letters and moving up the dial to 99.9, the former home of modern rock “Live 99.9” WQLQ-FM (Benton Harbor). Meanwhile, the “Live 99.9” programming shifts to WCXT (Hartford/Benton Harbor) (98.3), bumping hot AC “The Coast 98.3” off the air. The modern rock format will also be simulcast on the South Bend-licensed FM translator W241AD at 96.1.

Meanwhile, as previously reported here, sports WSBT South Bend (960), moves its FM simulcast from W241AD (96.1) to the St. Joseph-licensed FM translator W291DK at 106.1.

The 106.1 signal previously carried modern rock “QYQ 106.1,” which originated on WQYQ St. Joseph (1400), which now is also simulcasting WSBT.

Finally, classic rock “The Lake,” which has been broadcast on Benton Harbor, MI FM translator W300EJ at 107.9, moves to the full signal 97.5 frequency with the new call letters of WRRA.

“It’s a lot of change, and it’s probably overdue. This reflects the changing ways people consume music, the mobility of our audiences, and the evolution of music itself,” Dave Doetsch, Chief Operating Officer for Mid-West Family Marketing & Media, said in a release. “We did a lot of homework and external market research before launching this — a pretty substantial change. I’m proud of our team that has prepared for this change. I’m really excited for advertisers who are going to find greater value for their dollars and I’m excited to present all of this to the listeners. At the end of the day, they have choices in where and how they consume content and we’re putting our best foot forward to win their loyalty.”
