Michigan Stations Win Big at IBS 2024-25 Media Awards

WIDR student staffers celebrate their wins at the IBS conference.
The Intercollegiate Broadcasting System’s 86th annual conference was held March 7-8 in New York City where the winners of its IBS 2024-25 Media Awards were honored. High School and College student stations throughout Michigan were recipients.
In High School Radio, Bloomfield Hill's WBFH-FM (The Biff/88.1) won a first-place award for Best Sports Update for its coverage of the USA Wresting Tournament.
In College Radio, Western Michigan University's WIDR-FM (Kalamazoo) was recipient of the Abraham & Borst Award for Best Overall Station as well as being named Best College/University Station (More than 10,000 students). WIDR also won first place in Best Celebrity or Artist Interview for an interview with the band Neon Trees. The station also won for Best Logo.
Hillsdale College's WRFH-FM (Radio Free Hillsdale) won for Best Newscast. The newscast was anchored by Hillsdale College student Emily Schutte (’26) “I’m proud of Emily and all of our WRFH students for their work,” said Scot Bertram, general manager of WRFH/Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7 FM. “There were thousands of submissions from college stations across the country, and it is exciting to see one of our students accept top honors in a very important category.”
