WCMU invites local students to join in Home Court Screening and Discussion

WCMU Public Media (Mr. Pleasant) and Independent Lens will host a special screening of the critically acclaimed documentary Home Court on Wednesday, March 19 at at Mount Pleasant High School. Following the film, there will be an insightful panel discussion featuring Dan Fodrocy, President of AREN Consulting and Angela Pohl Hemlock Public School Athletic Director.

Home Court chronicles the inspiring journey of Cambodian American teenager Ashley Chea, a rising basketball star whose dreams and challenges are brought to life over three years of filming during her high school career. The documentary captures Ashley’s growth as a player and the emotional rollercoaster of her immigrant family's experience as they navigate the pressures of college recruitment, her devastating knee injury, and the joys and setbacks of chasing the American Dream. Through personal triumphs and hardships, Home Court offers an intimate look at Ashley’s resilience, showcasing her dedication and the unwavering support of her community. The film is a testament to both the power of sports and the strength of an individual’s spirit.

After the screening, join Fodrocy and Chea, who both have extensive experience in athlete development and mentoring, for a thought-provoking panel discussion that will explore the themes of the film, the challenges facing young athletes, and the importance of community support. This event is geared towards High school and even younger athletes who are interested in playing sports in high school and college. There will also be opportunity to shoot hoops and speak one on with our experts.
