A Seat at the Live Streaming Table for Michigan Broadcasters: MHSAA Amends Rules

Michigan broadcasters have new opportunities to cover local high school sports.

The Michigan Association of Broadcasters (MAB) worked with the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) to amend its live streaming policy which now allows local TV and radio stations to stream regular season games on their website and social platforms as well as over the air.

The new rules take effect immediately. This does not impact postseason restrictions.

“This is a major win for our local TV and radio stations and provides a new, potentially lucrative revenue stream for stations of all sizes in all markets,” said MAB incoming President Sam Klemet.

“We have worked especially hard on this issue at the MAB and are thankful for our many members who collaborated on the initiative. We also appreciate the MHSAA staff who was open to work on coming up with the revised policy.”

The MAB is partnering with the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters to offer a full-day Community Broadcasters Summit on January 24th to support those interested in enhancing their live stream skills. Registration will open next week and is free to MAB members.
