On August 18, MacDonald Broadcasting's WQHH-FM (Lansing) held their 12th Annual Backpack Giveaway to help students and families prepare for the start of the new school year.  Assisted by station sponsors as well as Communities in Schools of Michigan, the station handed out the backpacks drive-through style over a 2-hour period at the Don Johnson Field house parking lot in Lansing.

The backpacks were available to students elementary school through high school.  The station was assisted by Delta Dental, who helped stuff the backpacks with a variety of items from pencils and pens, to notebooks and highlighters.  Backpacks were geared towards specific age groups, so students received the supplies that apply to their grade level.

Scott Loomis, Operations Director for MacDonald Broadcasting/Lansing told WLNS-TV, "We were looking for a way to connect with the community and find a need and for Power 96.5, we knew a lot of our listeners were in Lansing proper and in the Lansing School District and quite a while back there was a need for backpacks and school supplies and we thought it was something that matched up really well with our audience and the community.”
