Wayne State University has teamed with the WWJ-AM (Detroit) to showcase how intimately and extensively the school is working to help solve the myriad challenges facing our community and state.

A new, weekly segment, “Warriors in the Community,” sponsored by Wayne State University, will air on Mondays during prime drive time at 5:12 p.m. on WWJ beginning on April 17.

In the two-minute segments, Darrell Dawsey, WSU associate director of community communications, will interview faculty, staff and students about how they make a difference in the lives of others.

“I produce a weekly e-newsletter and an annual magazine that highlight the great work Wayne State is doing in the surrounding community,” said Dawsey in a post on Today@Wayne. “Through this new partnership with WWJ, I’m excited to be able to share these great stories with a broader audience. Wayne State is making a difference, and we want everyone to know all about it.”

Wayne State has received the Carnegie Foundation’s highest classification for community engagement, a testament to the university’s positive impact on its community, state and beyond.

Examples of programs that will be featured on “Warriors in the Community” include the School of Medicine’s Street Medicine, in which medical students lead outreach to the city’s homeless population; Wayne Law’s Asylum and Immigration Law Clinic, which is currently working with immigrant children who have been separated from their parents; and the Great Grocer Project, which works to increase awareness and sales of healthy foods in Detroit grocery stores.
