October 20, 2023
The Adrian Maple Football community recognized WLEN's John Koehn at last Friday's (10/13) game for his 50th year of broadcasting football games on the station. Here is the announcement from Public Address Announcer, Jed Engle:
Adrian Public Schools Athletic Director, Chad O’Brian had this to say about John: “For the past 50 years Lenawee County athletes have had the pleasure of being broadcast by John Koehn. We here at AHS are especially fortunate to have him cover our football, basketball, and baseball teams. John’s commitment to our athletic programs and all Lenawee County athletes is truly an amazing achievement. Thank you John.”
WLEN General Manager Julie Koehn (who is also John's sister) said, “ John Koehn has been bringing award winning play by play to the listeners and fans of Adrian Maple Football for 50 years. An outstanding achievement. From the wins and losses to the stories of student athletes, WLEN is proud of the history he has made and proud of the community he has created in Lenawee County.”
John had this to say about his 50th season: "Many years ago, someone might have made a mistake handing me a soapbox and then might have compounded their mistake by handing me a microphone as well, broadcasting Adrian Maple football on WLEN for the last fifty seasons has been one of the most wonderful experiences of my life. From the glorious victories to the agonizing defeats, in the end, they were all just a lot of fun from the first game against the Monroe Trojans in 1974 to the present, it has been a truly gratifying experience. My thanks to all those who have come on what and is a great ride for me."
