Jason Benetti Joins Detroit Tigers as New TV Play-By-Play Announcer
November 17, 2023
The Detroit Tigers and Motor City baseball fans have a new television play-by-play announcer: Jason Benetti. After eight seasons with the Chicago White Sox, Benetti makes to move to the Motor City and is set to call at least 127 games each season, according to Ilitch Companies, the owner of the Tigers.
He will work alongside production staff with Bally Sports Detroit and his colleagues in the booth, officials said.
Benetti has also called games for FOX in college football, college basketball, and Major League Baseball. Additionally, he has booth experience for MLB Sunday Leadoff on Peacock and is a radio voice for March Madness on Westwood One.
He is known for his "elite storytelling ability, creative thinking, and engaging personality on-air and behind-the-scenes," officials said.
“From every single person I talked with throughout the interview process it was clear why so many respected professionals and creative people have joined the organization in the last several years," Benetti told Ilitch. "There’s something special about it, and I’m excited to bring that energy to Tigers fans around the globe," he said.
In the event of a scheduling conflict, long-time play-by-play voice Dan Dickerson will fill in the position, according to officials. Dickerson has filled in as an announcer in the past.
“Jason’s [Benetti's] reputation as one of the best and brightest announcers across all of sports adds to our already strong production effort here in Detroit," Senior Vice President and General Manager of Bally Sports Detroit Greg Hammaren told Ilitch. "His deep knowledge and love for baseball are traits shared by our incredible fans, and we’re looking forward to them getting to know Jason more starting in February when the Tigers take the field in Lakeland.”
