Adrian Broadcaster/Actor Peter Stewart Passes at 62
March 8, 2024
Last week, WLEN-FM (Adrian) reported that their friend and co-worker Peter ‘Pete’ Stewart passed away at the age of 62 on Monday, February 19.
As a broadcaster, Stewart was involved with local Adrian radio stations for over 25 years. He filled many roles on WLEN-FM, WABJ-AM and WQTE-FM. WLEN wrote that "Pete’s easy-going personality and sense of humor will be missed by many in Lenawee County."
He attended Adrian Public Schools, where he was on the high school swim team, a member of the physics club and a straight A student. Pete graduated from AHS in 1979 and went on to Albion College where he earned his Bachelor of Art degree in theatre. Stewart started performing at the Croswell Opera House when he was 6 years old, taking a role in the Wizard of Oz production. The acting bug stayed with him his whole life, and for over 50 years he entertained audiences with his singing and acting on stage.
Stewart was a loyal Detroit Tigers fan, loved to water ski and enjoyed looking at classic cars.
A memorial service was held on March 2. Memorial contributions may be made to the Croswell Opera House in honor of Peter.
WLEN held an on-air tribute for Stewart on March 1.
