My UP News Director Expands Role to Include WBKB-TV
October 25, 2024
This week Morgan Murphy Media announced that Ben Raymond has expanded his role within the company and will now be overseeing day-to-day news operations for WBKB-TV in Alpena. This new role is in addition to his current position as News Director for WBUP/WJMN in Marquette, Michigan.
Raymond has been the News Director at WJMN for the last 5 years. He started his career in Erie, Pennsylvania as a videographer and producer. He then moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, holding several key news management roles.
“This is an exciting new challenge and an opportunity to serve more communities in Michigan,” said Raymond. “The goal in Alpena is the same as it is in the Upper Peninsula. We will build and grow responsible and thoughtful journalists who will be in tune with the needs of the people who call that area home.”
During his time in Marquette, he has led special coverage of the UP200 sled dog races, Kraft Hockeyville, the Upper Peninsula Championship Rodeo and numerous other events and initiatives. He played a key role in the expansion of the news department, first with the launch of weekend newscasts on WJMN, and more recently with the launch of a morning news program on WBUP-TV.
“None of this would be possible if I didn’t have quality people around me. My role is to find those people and provide them with the tools and encouragement to be successful,” added Raymond.
Mark Overstreet, General Manager says that Raymond “CHAMPIONS” our commitment to the local communities we serve, our viewers, and our team. He’s a proven, effective leader exhibiting,
the core values needed to guide our content and people in Alpena, Michigan.
