Ty Steele Joins WDIV-TV as New Evening Anchor
December 13, 2024
Graham Media's WDIV-TV (Detroit) has announced the hiring of Ty Steele as its new evening anchor on the stations 5, 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts. He will join Kimberly Gill, Kim Adams, and Hobie Artigue beginning December 16.
Steele takes over the role after longtime WDIV anchor Devin Scillian announced his retirement after 30 illustrious years at the WDIV anchor desk.
“When Devin let us know his plans to retire, we knew we needed to find someone who understood the grit it takes to be successful here, and someone who celebrated the hard-working mentality all of us have in Southeast Michigan. When we got to know Ty, we immediately knew he was a true Detroiter at heart,” said WDIV Vice President & General Manager Bob Ellis.
Steele brings his storytelling expertise to WDIV after years of delivering impactful and meaningful stories in Sacramento. His unwavering dedication to journalism is evident in his work, where his passion for connecting with people and sharing their unique experiences truly shines. He joins anchors Jason Colthorp, Rhonda Walker, Karen Drew, Demond Fernandez, and partner Kimberly Gill to comprise Detroit’s most well-known and respected team of reporters and journalists.
Steele has been reporting at the station for the past several months, and he and his wife Stephanie, and their four young daughters are already immersed in the Metro Detroit community.
“Ty’s passion for storytelling and his dedication to connecting with audiences have made a lasting impact throughout his career,” WDIV News Director Jennifer Wallace said. “We’re confident his warmth, professionalism, and commitment to journalism and community will resonate deeply with our team and the Detroit community as he begins this exciting new chapter with us.”
“I am truly humbled and excited to join WDIV, serving the vibrant and resilient community of Metro Detroit. Thank you for this opportunity to tell your stories and to be part of a city with such a proud history and bright future,” Steele said.”
“I’ve quickly become a big fan of Ty and I know he’s going to fit beautifully into the Local 4 family,” Scillian said. “He’s a terrific journalist, but also a devoted father of four. We immediately bonded over that. I’m so eager for Detroit to get know him and his beautiful family.”
“Our genuine commitment to tell the stories that truly matter to our local community is what makes us special. The team of journalists whose efforts to make Detroit and our surrounding communities a better place to live inspire me every day. Ty Steele is all about these things. We know our viewers will immediately see that when they watch,” said Ellis.
