Tim Kochenderfer Named Station Manager at WXYZ-TV/WMYD-TV

Scripps Media has announced the promotion of Tim Kochenderfer to the role of station manager for WXYZ-TV and WMYD-TV (Detroit), effective April 14. As station manager he will help with day-to-day operations and also continue to lead news. Kochenderfer, who joined WXYZ in 2002, has been the station’s senior director of news since last August. He will retain that position in addition to his new station manager responsibilities. Previously, Kochenderfer served as assistant news director, senior executive producer, nightside executive producer and producer.
“Tim is a respected leader and has been an integral part of our success for more than two decades,” said Mike Murri, regional vice president for Scripps and WXYZ-WMYD general manager. “I look forward to all he will accomplish for our station, partners and community in this new role.”
Kochenderfer has received recognitions including a Murrow Award, 13 regional Emmy awards and honors from the Society of Professional Journalists, The Associated Press and the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.
He began his career as a writer and producer at WWJ/WKBD, the CBS affiliate in Detroit. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in telecommunication from Michigan State University.
