WION Celebrates 10 Years of “Treasures for Troops”

It’s the 10th year for WION’s (Ionia) “Treasures for Troops,” and this year’s drive is complete. The station announced on November 20, that working together, WION’s listeners, friends, advertisers, and Ionia and Saranac School Systems helped the Blue Star Mothers ship out 198 boxes to servicemen and women who are far from home!

Deadline Extension Granted for Sage EAS Users

Ahead of the December 12 deadline, users of Sage brand EAS equipment now have another 90 days to meet that pending FCC deadline for updating EAS firmware.  Sage previously announced in early November that the update has taken them longer to produce than they had anticipated and that there will be insufficient time for many users to install the update by the deadline.

Now in its 22nd year, the program pairs aspiring female radio professionals with established leaders in the field. Included in this year’s class is Beasley Media Detroit’s WRIF-FM Program Director Jade Springart.

WLEW’s Nancy Aymen Passes at 93

WLEW-AM/FM (Bad Axe) owner Nancy Aymen has passed away at age 93.  Nancy and her late husband Art Aymen married in Port Huron in 1948.  In 1971, the couple purchased Thumb Broadcasting, Inc. with radio stations WLEW-AM/FM and moved to the Bad Axe area to run the stations.

As part of a November fundraiser, WCMU Public Media invited listeners to donate not only to the station, but to also to give the gift of food and support food bank partners in Michigan.  10% of all donations over $60 were designated “Gift of Food” thank-you gifts.
