Copyright Royalty Board Starts WEB VI Proceeding to Set Webcasting Royalties Paid to SoundExchange for 2026-2030: Petitions to Participate Due February 6

The Copyright Royalty Board on Friday published in the Federal Register a call for interested parties to file Petitions to Participate in the proceeding to set the royalty rates to be paid by webcasters (including broadcasters who simulcast their programming through internet-delivered channels) in the period 2026-2030.

WZMQ Adds Two Broadcast Veterans to Staff

WZMQ-TV (Marquette) has announced that veteran sports broadcaster Mike Ludlum is joining the News 19 Team. Ludlum’s career includes more than 35 years as a television anchor, sports reporter and sports director in the market. From 2007 until 2022, he served as President of the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.

WILX’s Fred Heumann among inductees into 2024 Greater Lansing Sports Hall of Fame

Detroit Icon Ken Calvert Passes at 72

Ken Calvert, who was on Detroit radio for over 40 years, died on Wednesday. He was 72. He worked for several Detroit rock stations, such as WRIF-FM, WCSX-FM, WWWW-FM, WLLZ-FM and others. He was also a Detroit Pistons PA announcer for 16 years.

Michigan Radio’s Beenish Ahmed named to ProPublica’s Local Reporting Network

ProPublica has announced that Michigan Radio’s criminal justice reporter Beenish Ahmed has been selected to join their Local Reporting Network. Ahmed and Michigan Radio will be one of five partner newsrooms and local journalists to be added to the ProPublica Network.
