On December 11, Detroit radio veteran Don Swindell passed away at age 70. Throughout his career, Swindell served as Creative Services Director/Executive Morning Show Producer at WDFN-AM (1994-2002); APD/Creative Director at WXYT-AM/FM (2002-2007), and Imaging Director for CBS Radio Detroit (2008-2015).
A couple of Michigan TV stations have announced some changes to their channel lineup, all effective on January 1.
2024 is almost upon us. At this time of year, everyone seems to be making a list of the best (or worst) events of 2023, or predictions for what the new year will bring. After the first of the year, we will dust off our crystal ball and look at some of the legal and policy issues that may be addressed in the new year. Today we will look at the dates that are already set for 2024.

On December 8, Nexstar’s WLNS-TV (Lansing) held its 16th Annual Day of Giving, again this year benefiting the Greater Lansing Food Bank and the South Michigan Food Bank to help feed those in need during the holiday season.
iHeart Radio/West Michigan’s 24th annual Helen Devos Children’s Hospital Radiothon was held December 7-8 and raising over $601,000 for West Michigan’s children and families.
WKAR Public Media, an award-winning PBS member station, premiered “Beyond the Score with Al Martin,” on Thursday, December 14, 2023 on WKAR-TV in mid-Michigan. The special edition sports magazine show explores stories where sports and society intersect.
This past October, WLEN-FM/WQTE-FM and 96.5 The Cave, along with community partners, spent 10 days collecting gently used coats and blankets to “Keep Lenawee Warm.” The stations have just released this years totals.
Kayla Morgan has been upped at Beasley Media Group’s WMGC-FM (Detroit) middays. The Detroit native has been serving in a digital content role for the company since earlier this year after moving back to Michigan in September 22. She earlier served as afternoon host at WWST-FM (Knoxville, TN).
DPTV and Wayne State Partner with the Center for Cooperative Media on National Journalism Conference
One of the most important national journalism conferences of the year is coming to Detroit next spring and Detroit Public TV and Wayne State University’s Department of Communication are helping to plan and host it.
