Our traffic directors and all traffic staff are very often the unsung heroes at their station, and it was wonderful seeing so many people recognized by their managers and coworkers.
On November 2nd, the Michigan Association of Broadcasters successfully hosted our second annual Great Lakes Broadcast and Sports Media Academy at Ford Field in Detroit.
Ashlee Smith has joined WKAR Public Media at Michigan State University as the senior director of content and education. Smith came to WKAR in September 2023, from PBS North in Duluth, Minnesota, where she was director of content.

National Student Production Awards as well as the College Media Association Pinnacle Awards.
iHeartMedia’s WJLB-FM (Detroit) held its annual Coats for Kids fundraiser this past Saturday (11/4), supporting the Salvation Army of Metro Detroit’s mission to provide essentials for those in need. The event raised more than $23,000.
Scripps Media has announced that its WMYD-TV (Detroit/TV20) will bring CW Network primetime programming back to the market starting on November 13.
CW Network programming from 8 – 10 p.m. Eastern includes shows like “All American,” “61st Street,” “Whose Line Is it, Anyway?” and “Penn & Teller: Fool Us.”
In the Washington Post last weekend, an op-ed article suggested that political candidates should voluntarily renounce the use of artificial intelligence in their campaigns. The article seemed to be looking for candidates to take the actions that governments have largely thus far declined to mandate.
Following an extensive nationwide search, Michigan Radio announced this week the hiring of Wendy Turner as the station’s new Executive Director & General Manager. Turner will begin her duties at Michigan Radio on January 2, 2024.
“Rebecca was a true marketing leader in our industry. She was loved, and respected by all of her co-workers and partners,” Senior VP/Market Manager Debbie Kenyon said in a statement to Inside Radio. “She was a key part of Audacy Detroit’s success over the years and will be missed.”
