After a 47 year career in his hometown of Lansing, WFMK-FM Morning Personality Danny Stewart retired on January 31. Stewart has been with WFMK since 1991 after previous stints at WILS-AM from 1976-77 and WVIC-FM from 1977 to 1991.
Midwestern Broadcasting Company’s WJZQ-FM (Cadillac/Traverse City) has moved from CHR to a Hot AC presentation, positioned as “Hits from the 90s to Now.” After teasing about possible changes for days, the station formally made the flip on February 1.

There are normally a host of regulatory obligations at the beginning of February, but because of technical issues with the FCC’s online public file and LMS systems, many February 1 dates, as well as some January regulatory deadlines, have been extended to late February.
On January 27, The FCC’s Media Bureau issued a Public Notice announcing that it is extending through February 28, 2023 the deadline for licensees to: (1) upload any documents into the Online Public Inspection File (OPIF) system that were due beginning on January 1, 2023 (e.g., Issues Programs Reports for 4Q 2022); (2) upload the annual children’s programming report;
FCC-mandated changes to the Emergency Alert System are scheduled to go into effect on December 12. These changes may require software and/or hardware updates that broadcasters should budget for now.
Krol Communications Inc., has announced the promotion of Rich Renko to General Manager of WHMI-FM (Howell). Renko joined WHMI-FM as General Sales Manager in December, 2018. The Michigan Association of Broadcasters wants our stations to feel protected both physically and online. Last year, the MAB and Michigan State Police began offering Site Safety Assessments to evaluate and make practical recommendations of security operations at broadcast stations. Now, the MAB and MSP are extending our support to members by offering free cyber security assessments.
