As anyone who drives a car or pays a home heating bill knows, energy costs have skyrocketed in the last year and are expected to go even higher. Now, as winter approaches, it is more important than ever for MAB member stations to control their energy costs. Station budgets have undoubtedly been strained and there is risk that this heating season will make matters worse.

Nexstar Media’s WOOD-TV (Grand Rapids) has announced the hiring of Meteorologist Blake Harms. Harms is the morning meteorologist at Nexstar station WLNS in Lansing and is a West Michigan native.
At each of the last two of the FCC’s recent regular monthly open meetings, the Commission addressed EAS issues that affect broadcasters. In one case, it adopted new rules that will, among other things, require that broadcasters use on-air the “IPAWS” internet-delivered emergency message in the CAP format, if the broadcaster receives the alert in both the CAP and traditional over-the-air formats.
