In speaking to many broadcast groups around the country in the last few months, I have found that many broadcasters are totally confused by the FCC’s rules requiring that they seek certifications from anyone buying programming time on their stations (or providing programming for free in exchange for that programming being broadcast on the station).
WKAR Public Media recently received a Congressionally Funded Community Project (CFCP) grant from the Department of Education to leverage ATSC 3.0 television technology to deliver educational content to underserved families in mid-Michigan.

This past Sunday (10/16), the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Michigan Chapter, inducted six honorees into the distinguished Silver Circle. One of the highest honors given by NATAS Michigan, the Silver Circle recognizes television professionals who have performed distinguished service within the television industry for 25 years or more, a significant part of which was done within the chapter’s region of Michigan.
Gray Television’s WILX-TV (Lansing) Made an Impact partnering with in Heavenly Peace on September 10 by helping to build sixty two beds at the Lowes on South Cedar in Lansing. The effort by WILX continued this week (10/17), working with Sylvan Learning Centers to collected donations both at its studio and at two area Sylvan locations.
Veteran Michigan broadcaster Sean Mahon has joined Allen Media Group’s WJRT-TV (Flint) as Assistant News Director. Mahon is known for his years as News Director at WWTV/WWUP-TV in Cadillac (2016-2021) as well as his 11 years at WDIV-TV (Detroit),
During her tenure, she was an associate news director, continuity director and production director. While she was known for her production work, Boerman also made a name for herself as a reporter.
Nexstar’s WXSP-TV (Grand Rapids) has announced that for the third consecutive year, the station will serve as the exclusive live in-market television partner for the Grand Rapids Griffins hockey team. The station will televise 10 home games live from Van Andel Arena.
This past Thursday, October 13, Nexstar’s WOOD-TV (Grand Rapids) hosted the first of two televised debates between the two candidates seeking the role of Governor for the State of Michigan in the November 8 general election.
