In collaboration with Don Anthony and Morning Show Boot Camp, Jacobs Media surveyed more than 500 participating U.S. radio personalities, hosts, and producers in the U.S. for AQ6, including nearly 60 of whom are currently unemployed. They expressed how they feel about key issues affecting their jobs and their careers.
Sports Rap Radio has shut down its programming on Audacy’s WXYT-AM this past Tuesday (8/27). A group led by FOX Sports Radio host Rob Parker had leased the station starting back in June. Audacy reports that the station will return to BetQL Network programming which it was before the flip in June.
It is time for our update on the coming month’s regulatory dates and deadlines to which broadcasters should be paying attention – and the deadline that probably is most important to all commercial broadcasters is not yet known. That, of course, is the deadline for the payment of annual regulatory fees – which must be made before the federal government’s October 1 start of the new fiscal year.
Cornerstone University’s WCSG-FM (Grand Rapids) announced last week that longtime News Director Becky Carlson has retired after 40 years. In a Facebook post, the station writes that “Becky has served WCSG with humility and patience over the years and has consistently practiced careful discernment in selecting news stories and relaying the day’s headlines with an impartial, factual, and compassionate approach.
We thought that this would be a good time to remind broadcasters of EAS filing obligation that they may have missed as there has not been the widespread publicity that comes with the announcement of a Nationwide EAS test. While there is apparently no plan to conduct a Nationwide Test this year, broadcasters still must file their EAS Test Reporting System (ETRS) Form One by October 4, 2024.
This past Thursday night (8/22), Cumulus Media’s WDVD-FM (Detroit) held their annual “Baby Bash” event at District 142 in Wyandotte. The annual event supports the Glamourous Moms Foundation, which works to support, inspire, and build confidence in women, expectant mothers, and their children, to enhance their quality of life.
Scripps Media’s Detroit cluster WXYZ-TV and WMYD-TV announced the names of those filling two positions on their staff this week. Tim Kochenderfer has been promoted from Assistant News Director to the role of News Director.
Nexstar Media’s WLNS-TV (Lansing) has wrapped up their 2024 Operation Backpack campaign. The station partnered with Catholic Charities of Ingham, Eaton and Clinton Counties and Catholic Charities of Jackson, Lenawee, and Hillsdale Counties to collect school supplies for local children, including foster children, adopted children, refugees, and others who may need assistance.
On August 15, Liggett Communication’s WHLS-AM/FM (Port Huron) partnered with the Blue Water Area Humane Society for the third year of “Rockin’ the Rescue,” a day-long fundraising and awareness event.
Graham Media’s WDIV-TV (Detroit) has announced that Shawnte Passmore has joined the station as a reporter. Passmore comes to the station after a nearly 2-year stint as a journalist at KOVR-TV in Sacramento, California.
