WOOD-TV’s Terri DeBoer Announces Retirement

Nexstar’s WOOD-TV (Grand Rapids) has announced that longtime station meteorologist Terri DeBoer has retired.  DeBoer delivered her last weather forecast last night (9/28).  She has been with the station after nearly 30 years and has worked in local news more than 35 years.

WKAR Public Media (East Lansing) has announced the hiring of Eli Newman as Assistant News Director and Editor.  Newman joins the WKAR stations after a seven-year stint as a reporter at Detroit’s WDET-FM where he covered breaking news, politics and community affairs.

Scripps’ WXMI-TV Unveils New News Set

September 29, 2023

This past Monday (9/25), Scripps Media’s WXMI-TV/Fox 17 (Grand Rapids) unveiled its new state-of-the art news set, a project that took two months to build and nearly two years before that to plan.  The studio features a 16-foot seamless video wall and two 12-foot seamless video walls.

Site Safety Assessments

In an effort to help provide protection to broadcasters in Michigan, the MAB and Michigan State Police Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Desk are partnering to help broadcast stations ensure safety for their staff and facilities by offering Station Site Safety Assessments that will evaluate and make practical recommendations of security operations at broadcast stations.

Alternative Broadcast Inspections

The Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP) is a unique partnership between the MAB and the FCC to ensure compliance with federal regulations and to avoid surprise inspections. Stations that pass the inspection receive a three-year Certification of Compliance.
