Delta College Public Broadcasting Recipient of $977k CPB Grant

May 17, 2024

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) announced this week that Delta Public Broadcasting’s WDCQ-TV (Bad Axe/Flint) is one of three public broadcasters awarded funding under the Next Generation Warning System grant program that funds public media stations to upgrade equipment and receive training to enhance alerting and warning capabilities. The program is funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

WXYZ-TV reported this past Wednesday (5/15) that legendary weathercaster Marilyn Turner has died.  The station confirmed the news with her family. Neither the date nor cause was revealed.

Don’t Start Counting Marijuana Advertising Dollars Yet – Cautions Despite Possible Changes in Its Federal Classification

In recent weeks, we saw press reports on a recommendation from the Attorney General to loosen federal restrictions on marijuana – reclassifying it by moving it off Schedule I (an illegal controlled substance with no medical uses and a high degree of potential abuse) to Schedule III, where many other drugs, including some requiring a prescription, are listed.

Site Safety Assessments

In an effort to help provide protection to broadcasters in Michigan, the MAB and Michigan State Police Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Desk are partnering to help broadcast stations ensure safety for their staff and facilities by offering Station Site Safety Assessments that will evaluate and make practical recommendations of security operations at broadcast stations.

Alternative Broadcast Inspections

The Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP) is a unique partnership between the MAB and the FCC to ensure compliance with federal regulations and to avoid surprise inspections. Stations that pass the inspection receive a three-year Certification of Compliance.
